The Virginia Vineyards Association met this week to select their wine “grower of the year”. It was no surprise to those familiar with the VA wine industry that the award went to Jeanette Smith of Shenandoah County VA. She’s been instrumental in promoting and guiding the cultivation of Virginia wines for over 30 years and you can read more details HERE.

The Charlottesville western region of White Hall will soon be home to a new winery and vineyard management. It’s a 50-acre vineyard named Grace Estates Winery, and it was formerly the Mount Juliet Farm Vineyard. The new owner Jake Busching previously managed the Jefferson and Keswick vineyards in our area, and he comes to this new position with a deep knowledge of vineyards and grapes in central Virginia.
The topography and climate in White Hall, in close view of the Blue Ridge foothills, contribute greatly to the success of the varietal grapes there. Grace Estates Winery has 10 different varietal grapes, planted in clustered areas and previously sold to other local wine bottlers to supplement their activities.
They hope to have the winery fully operational this year, so we’ll look forward to trying it out! You can get the full story HERE.
