Virginia Farms & Wind Turbines

by Gayle on June 21, 2010

Farmers are always looking for ways to save money and make the most out of their investment.  Many farmers today are thinking “green” and researching to find ways that they can reduce their operating costs as well as help to make the world a cleaner place.  Several Virginia farmers are building wind turbines to help offset their energy costs.

A wind turbine, depending on its size can cost  at least $15,000 and many farmers believe that they can recoup the cost in just five years!   You can check out this site to find a list of small wind turbine suppliers as well as a list of questions for guidance.

The USDA through its rural development program can provide as much as 85% loan guarantess to qualified farm operations. Here is an article about how one Halifax farmer is using wind turbines to cut energy costs.
